This articles seems rather appropriate and is even more important to us as we begin our family.
Many people have asked if there was any family or historical significance behind Truman’s name. The short answer is no. We do not have any affinity for any Truman’s in history - in fact I can only think of a few. As we were thinking about names we wanted a name that was uncommon but not weird. We searched the Social Security baby name database and poured over several blogs and came across Truman and it just resonated with us. Only 181 baby boys born in the USA in 2011 were named Truman, and it was not included in the top 1,000 names. At the same time the name sounds familiar and natural to us. But most importantly when we saw our little guy we just knew it was right.
But there are some other nice characteristics about his name. It means “loyal one”. When I learned this I was reminded of a talk Elder Jeffrey R. Holland gave in General Conference in which praised the virtue of loyalty when he said:
… the crowning characteristic of love is always loyalty. (Oct. 2012)
Sounds like a good name to me.
We are just falling in love with our little man more and more every day!
It was a busy weekend for Lauren and myself - Lauren ended up having a baby on Sunday which put a wrinkle in all of our Cinco de Mayo plans.
Our son Truman was born at 9:30 AM on May 5 with a full head of hair and just melted our hearts from the first instant we saw him. Words are inadequate to describe the joy and excitement we feel every moment we are around our little guy.
Truman was born 2 1/2 weeks early but was still a very healthy 7 lbs 3 oz and 19 1/2 inches. We are glad he was eager to join our family a little early but mostly we are grateful for his good health and Lauren’s speedy recovery.
More pics and stories to come …

As we get ready for our bundle of joy, it seems there are a lot of ways to mess up a child … no pressure.

This is not meant to be political or to be an indictment on any, most, or all entitlements. With that being said, I did find this article extremely interesting. The solutions are complex but it is obvious there are significant problems with the present situation.

For Valentine’s Day we went to downtown Dallas and watched the Catch Me if You Can musical. We both loved the movie but were a little unsure how the play would turn out. We were pleasantly surprised by the musical, good acting and good music - it was a lot of fun. This was our favorite song at the end of the show.

Awesome article in Sports Illustrated about the best high school player in the country … and he’s Mormon.
